This map of the British Isles is by William Rogers. It dates from 1600 and was published in London. It was prepared for insertion opposite folio 107 of William Camden’s Britannia. The map is the prototype for William Holes larger and more well known version published in 1607. Both maps feature a cartouche containing a seven-sceptered crown and the motto ‘Terra Armis Animisque Potens’. The seven-sceptered crown is the emblem of the seven Anglo-Saxon kingdoms.
