A Walk Round Nottingham part 03
Composer: Tongue, James
Nottingham during the 19th Century was a manufacturing city, coal mining and lace making were just two of the industries based there. A railway was opened in 1839 that connected Nottingham with Derby, and the canal network provided a vital link to the rest of the country. The lyrics of this song contain references to many places and landmarks in Nottingham such as Belvoir Castle, the railway station, Chapel bar and Carrington Street. This personal detail would have encouraged a sense of belonging.
