Piccadilly was designed and built in 1819, according to plans by John Nash. It became a stylish area and only the upper classes could afford to shop there. The world of the Victorian upper classes was complicated, rules of etiquette were rigorous and complex and to be seen doing the wrong thing was a terrible faux par. Many songs parodied love and commented on society and this song is no exception. Hall sings that he has fallen in love with the perfect girl only to find that her father dissaproves of the match and he can be seen here chasing the couple down the street.
