The town of Douglas is the capital of the Isle of Man. The national symbol of the Isle of Man, is the Trie Cassyn; the three legs, and it is incorporated into this cover illustration. The history of this design is unknown but it seems related to a pagan symbol representing the sun and it's passage across the sky during the day. One of the earliest uses of this design was on a Manx Sword of State dating from about 1230. As the fishing industry of the Isle of Man started to decline in the 19th Century, tourism replaced it as a source of income. The Island became a popular holiday destination for people from the midlands and the north west of England.
