Derby week was both a race week and a public. It was an opportunity for enjoyment with fairs and entertainment and all manner of goods to buy. Derby Day was held at Epsom race-course in May or June. It was a time when all classes had the opportunity to mix, although it is questionable if this actually happened in practice. 'The races' were the place to be seen and both men and women would have dressed up. This music sheet illustration depicts stars of the Music Hall such as 'The Great Vance' and Arthur Lloyd riding in a four-in-hand (a type of carriage) on the way to the races.
