Northumbrian Beauties part 01
Composer: Glover, Chas. W
The lounge or parlour became the centre of music in Victorian England for the middle classes. Sunday evenings were a particularly popular time for gathering friends and family together for musical performances and singing. Family members could often play many instruments; fiddles, flutes and pianos were popular. The cover illustration shows a young couple in the grounds of a castle on a hill, overlooking a lake. This romantic scene helps to emphasise the style of the music and would have acted like a magazine cover today attracting the interest of a particular market.
