Popular music often contains references to important historical events as a way of instilling pride and self-respect in audiences. Naseby became embedded in popular imagination as it was the sight of a significant battle during the English Civil War. The battle was fought on the 14th June 1645 and was the decisive engagement of the war. The Parliamentarian army defeated King Charles I's troops which changed the course of history and eventually lead to the execution of the King.
