No Surrender part 08
Composer: Martin, Robert
It is impossible to appreciate the sheer weight of material dealing with War and Empire in the Music Hall Tradition. War was usually simplified and glorified, colourful uniforms and musical effects heightened the impact made by performers, and lyrics encouraged patriotic feelings. Material presented to the audience by performers would have influenced opinions and attitudes, many would not have any experience of war or fighting and would have based their opinions on newspaper articles, cartoons and popular songs of the time.
