Paddington Green part 08
Composer: Jonghmans, E
Visiting the halls was a form of escapism for audiences, the working classes could enjoy a meal, have a few drinks, meet their friends and be entertained for a reasonable price. The song sheets for these music hall songs were in great demand by the middle classes. Sheets sold for about 3 shillings, which would have been a considerable sum for the workers. Being able to play or sing the songs in the home added a respectability to a rather risqué form of entertainment.
