The Railway Bell(e) part 07
Composer: Clifton, Harry
It was the comic singers who epitomised 'Music Hall' and the adoption of an instantly recognisable character was essential. Harry Clifton was a popular and talented performer who could quickly change from a cheeky cockney to a heartbroken suitor to the delight of the audiences. Unusually he wrote the majority of the music, as well as the words for his songs and knew just when to wink, or add a musical flourish, to turn a seemingly innocent statement into a risqué innuendo.
