The Highland Plaid part 08
Composer: A L
Arthur Lloyd was a clever and versatile writer as well as a talented entertainer. He performed five or six songs a night, more when he was appearing at Morton's Canterbury Theatre, and wrote more over 1000 songs. He married 'Kitty King' who was also a Music Hall performer, and together they staged many shows and went on tour. Dreamy and wistful songs were popular with workers in the cities who had often moved there to make their fortunes, and intended to return 'home' once they had enough money to marry and start a family. These dreams often did not come true in reality so Music Hall was a form of escapism.
