The Streets Of London Quadrilles part 04
Composer: Hall, Charles
This picture, by Thomas Packer is of a real location. It was drawn from St Martin's Lane, the columns on the left of the picture are those of 'St Martin In The Fields Church', and Trafalgar Square can be seen, with Nelson's Column in the background. However the view is very distorted and does not look like this in reality. On the right of the picture can be seen a patrol of 'Peelers', these were the forerunners of the modern police force. The picture is textured, the snow and ice on the ground are raised form the surface. The illustration was based on a scene from the musical 'The Streets of London' by T. Westrop which ran at the Princess's Theatre in the 1860's.
