The Glamis Castle Waltz part 03
Composer: Gabriel, Virginia
The Waltz is thought to be the 'Queen of all dances'. It was introduced to Britain in about 1790 by Baron Newman, and its freedom of expression through gliding and whirling movements immediately became the rage. It was considered to be very scandalous as the dancers held each other very close, their bodies and even their faces touched whilst they danced. Waltzing was actually banned by the church in Germany. It initially became very popular with the upper classes in Britain and then, through public balls, with the middle classes.
