Music Hall songs relied on the double entendre and performers could make seemingly innocent expressions very 'blue' with a simple wink or wriggle. This is a typical comic Music Hall song, it describes a situation in a railway carriage on a train to Brighton. The young lady was travelling to the coast when she met a gentleman in the carriage. She was distracted by his good looks, most especially his handsome moustache! As the train entered a tunnel she felts a 'strange sensation on her lips' and was surprised to discover that the gentleman's moustache was attached to her lips! He turned out to be a thief who stole her belongings.
