To Oxford Town part 03
Composer: Parsons, Madeline C
In 1849 a printing company, 'Vincent Novello' reduced the price of musical publications by 50%, other companies followed suit and by 1865 some popular songs were being sold for as little as half a pence. This meant that music was much more affordable and rather than copying out by hand everyone could afford to purchase their own music sheets. The lyrics of this song, present a lovely view of the outskirts of Oxford, advocating taking a day trip to the countryside, enjoying the sunshine and then rowing back to the city at the end of the day.
