Queen Victoria reinstated Windsor Castle as the the principal palace of the monarchy, and it came to be seen as a symbol of the Empire. Songs such as the 'Windsor Castle Polka' were patriotic and were intended to convey a sense of pride in the nation. Windsor Castle is depicted with flag flying, signifying that the Queen was in residence, overlooking the Thames where there are men fishing from a small boat. Colourful covers would have captured people's attention and produced higher sales.
