A series of ultra-portable gramophones began to appear in the 1920s that, when closed, looked like a box-camera. The Colibri portable gramophone, illustrated here, was one of the smallest of this type. It was made in Belgium, using a Swiss-made diaphragm and motor
Like the later Thorens 'Excelda', the Colibri could play a 10-inch disc, but, because of its tiny turntable, it was necessary to secure the record with a clamping nut before playing it.
