Made by the British engineering firm, Vickers, the Guiniphone was identical in design to that of the American-made Polly Portable and Brunswick Parisienne machines. It was perhaps the only genuinely portable folding gramophone equipped with a full-sized 10-inch turntable. The instrument's most striking feature, however, was the brightly decorated and collapsible conical diaphragm horn. The horn was made of light cardboard, so the pick-up included heavy iron weights to hold the stylus in the record's groove.
