Research interestsMy main research interests are social and intellectual history and the historiography of China and the Silk Road/Central Asia in the first millennium AD. I research and catalogue manuscripts and other artefacts from the Stein Collection from archaeological sites in the Taklamakan, Lop and Gobi deserts. Other research interests include material culture of the Silk Road, forgeries, exploration, cultural interactions and globalization and the East-West Orientalist debate.
