Our vast collection of books now numbers over 3 million and is increasing at the rate of about 45,000 a year.
The criteria for selection are that the books should be required for serious research and study, and not readily available in local libraries. Therefore, juvenile, fictional and recreational publications are generally not acquired, nor are practical "how-to" books or school textbooks.
All subjects are covered. We have books in many languages, but it is in English language material that our collections are particularly strong. They are acquired mainly from the UK and North America but Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent, Japan and south-east Asia are all well represented.
