Reports, Conferences and Theses

Every researcher and practitioner, student and academic knows that a great deal of valuable information is never published in the conventional way. Refined and edited versions may appear after a lengthy delay in journal articles or in books, but in many cases the original report or paper is the only source.

These documents are often difficult to identify and acquire through normal bookselling channels and, for this reason, are sometimes referred to as ‘grey literature’.

The British Library has always made a special effort to raise awareness of this type of material - reports, theses, translations, non-commercial conference and official (government) material - in the knowledge that it is often difficult for our customers to identify and obtain.

Records for the British reports, British doctoral theses and conferences held in our collection are included in the 'Document Supply Material' section of Explore the British Library.
