About Social Sciences Collections and Research

The Social Sciences Collections and Research team is responsible for developing the British Library's collections in social sciences subjects in ways which support all types of researcher – academic, charity/voluntary sector, government, business and the public.

The aims of the team are:

  • To play a leading role in the management, provision and transfer of information social scientists need and use
  • To exploit aspects of the Library's collections through collaborative research-led activities, as well as building collections for the future
  • To support knowledge transfer by acting as a hub of debate, networking and resources, and as a facilitator for the exchange of ideas and information between researchers, practitioners and policymakers
  • To contribute to the development of the next generation of researchers
  • To promote the public understanding and awareness of the value and role of social science research.
