Photo etching prints
For this project, Aga has investigated the science of photography at the turn of the 19th and 20th century, as well as the character of ethnographic research of that time. The Library’s Endangered Archives Programme rescues collections that may otherwise have been lost. Inspired by a digitalised photographic archive of southern Siberian indigenous population, the photo-etchings take the digitalised collection of glass plate negatives into a more tangible realm, and invite the audience to engage with a different way of experiencing the world. The prints are an attempt to keep alive the stories of the indigenous peoples of the Arctic Circle.
