Encounters between Art and Science is the product of a fruitful collaboration between the Central Saint Martins Art and Science MA programme, and the Science Technology and Medicine team at the British Library. The art in this exhibition deals with the nature of collating, categorising and disseminating information. Some of the artworks connect their enquiries to the British Library’s collection items and archives; others relate to the Library itself—the building and the people who come here. All address those who visit, research and work at the British Library. The exhibition invites a search for connections and reflections between disciplines that have more in common than may seem apparent.
Encounters between Art and Science invites the visitor to explore the Library with a view to its potential for interdisciplinary enquiry. Scientific information resides not just in the scientific literature, but also in maps, photographs, stamps, sound recordings and even people.
