We acquire and make available selected primary and secondary publications in the humanities and social sciences at research level from the Dutch-speaking territories (including Frisian and Afrikaans).
Catalogues of British Library material
A general catalogue of material held by the Library is available called Explore the British Library
The British Library early Dutch/Flemish collections are recorded in:
Short title catalogue of books printed in the Netherlands and Belgium and of Dutch and Flemish books printed in other countries from 1470 to 1600 now in the British Museum (London, 1965)
Catalogue of books from the Low Countries 1601-1621, compiled by Anna E.C.Simoni (London, 1990).
All 17th century Dutch imprints held in the British Library (some 17,500) have now been recorded on the STCN (Short Title Catalogue Netherlands). This joint project with the Koninklijke Bibliotheek in The Hague is still in progress. At present (Autumn 2001), pre-1600 titles from the British Library's collection are being added. 18th century imprints will be added at a later date.
A wide ranging, subject-based catalogue is J. Harskamp's The Low Countries: a selective catalogue of reference works (PDF format). This catalogue will be extended and updated at regular intervals.
