2. Monolingual dictionaries | |
| Le nouveau Petit Robert is the leading single-volume dictionary of modern French. Le grand Robert, the Trésor de la langue française and the Grand Larousse are the standard multi-volume works in this field. Littré is the best-known dictionary published in the nineteenth century. The other dictionaries listed cover the language of the seventeenth or sixteenth century and medieval French. The 9th edition of the Dictionnaire de l'Académie française is in progress (two volumes published to date). Dictionnaires d'autrefois provides access to the electronic version of a collection of dictionaries from the 16th to the 19th centuries provided by the ARTFL Project (University of Chicago) and the Institut National de la Langue Française. | |
