The printed and microfiche editions of the Author Catalogue of the Bibliothèque nationale should be used in conjunction for a full overview. Up to vol. 186, each volume of the printed edition is only as up-to-date as its publication date and, from vol.187 onwards, no book published later than 1959 was included. The first microfiche set reproduces the B.N. working copy incorporating additions and amendments. The second microfiche set reproduces the B.N. card catalogue which contains over one million extra entries (including twentieth-century material) not in the printed edition.
BN-Opale Plus is the main online catalogue of the Bibliothèque nationale de France. It gives access to the records of printed material (books and periodicals) from the beginnings to date.

4. Union Catalogues
The Catalogue collectif de France contains the Catalogue des fonds des bibliothèques muncipales rétroconvertis, BN-Opale Plus and the Système universitaire de documentation allowing the user to locate over 14 million items. The CCFr also gives access to the Répertoire national des bibliothèques et des centres de documentation: a directory of libraries taking part in the union catalogue.
The Système universitaire de documention, the universities' union catalogue, contains 5 million records of books, periodicals and theses.
French Bibliography 15th Century to 2000 lists 2.28 million entries from the collections of American and European research libraries. As part of the World Bibliographies on CD-ROM series, this title lists items on the basis of their language - in this case French - rather than their place of publication.
