This listing provides access to Early American Newspapers, a microfilm set produced by NewsBank Readex of Florida, USA. It contains approximately 700 17th-, 18th-, and 19th-century newspaper titles, filmed from a range of library collections across the USA, including the Boston Atheneum, the Connecticut Historical Society, the Library Company of Philadelphia, the Library of Congress, Brown University Library, Harvard University Library, and many others.
It is held at British Library Newspapers in Colindale, north west London.
In keeping with the way in which these newspapers have been filmed, titles have been listed alphabetically by state and then, within each state, alphabetically by the town or city of publication. The dates provided are not intended to be exact, but they offer a guide to the years which are held for each title. In all cases, titles have been filmed as fully as possible, but various issues may be missing.
The shelfmark listed for each item is that which is required for retrieval, along with details of title, place of publication, and dates. These details should be entered in the appropriate boxes on readers' application slips, which are available in the Reading Rooms, and which should then be submitted to the Newspaper Supply Desk in the Main Reading Room for the microfilms to be retrieved.
Details of other early American material held in the Newspaper Library collection are available via the main Newspaper Catalogue.
