'Parliamentary constituencies and their registers since 1832' is a unique index to the British Library's collection of electoral rolls.
The above title lists constituencies alphabetically, gives the Library's register holdings and shelfmark for each, and also offers a historical introduction which provides a wealth of information about the franchise and voter registration as both changed over time.
This latest version is updated from the printed book of the same title compiled by R.H.A. Cheffins and published in 1998. It is a work in progress which will be continuously updated to reflect constituency boundary revisions. The Library funds an ongoing programme for microfilming registers published between 1832 and 1938; microform shelmarks will be added for constituencies whose registers have been filmed as and when required.
It has proved uneconomic to produce a hardcopy version of this updated edition of the list for sale. However, two print copies will be available in the Social Sciences Reading Room for reference use.
If you are a British Library reader pass holder and would like to order registers to be delivered to the Social Sciences Reading Room at St Pancras, please consult our guide:
Please note that we are currently in the process of moving the 1984 – 1997 Electoral Registers to our storage facility in Boston Spa. This move will take approximately 10 weeks from mid-June and rather than embargo the entire collection, delivery of these Electoral Registers may be subject to short term delays. Once these registers have moved to Boston Spa delivery to the Social Sciences reading room will be 48 hours. For more information please speak to a member of the Social Science Reference Team. We apologise for any inconvenience caused
