Philatelic Collections: Air Mail Collections

The British Library Philatelic Collections are the National Philatelic Collections of the United Kingdom.This is a brief overview of our air mail collections.

The Fitz Gerald Collection

An outstanding collection of world air mails to the 1930s. It is particularly strong in the material of France, Germany, Italy, Newfoundland and United States. Formed by Mrs Augustine Fitz Gerald, the collection was donated in 1947.

The Monks Collection

Of South African air mails from 1911 to 1960, formed by David Monks and bequeathed in 1981.

The Scott Collection 

Great Britain Inland airmails to the late 1970s and is comprehensive in most areas of the subject. Includes a specialised section of 1912 Daily Mail flights. Formed by H. Eric Scott, it was donated in 1977.

The Seymour Collection 

A collection of mail associated with the development and operation of the Comet aircraft, was formed by Kenneth Seymour and donated by his daughter Yvonne Wallace and his son Derek Seymour in 2003.
