Digital FAQs

If material is held in digital format, why is it necessary for me to come into the Library's Reading Rooms? Can I not access the material from my own workstation at home or the office?

You can remotely access digital content produced by the Library itself.

We license purchased or deposited publications from the publisher (or other rights holder). For a variety of reasons, mainly of a commercial nature, the licences do not allow free access outside of the premises of the Library.

Is digital material limited solely to use in Reading Rooms?

Some of the material (for example, articles from e-journals in the Science and Technology field) is also available through our document supply services. You may request this material directly via your own institution or public library. Some Document Supply services are also available to individuals.
