Where can I get help in the Reading Rooms?

 Reference Enquiry Desks

The Reference Services staff can help you use the catalogues or indexes or assist you with tracing material relevant to your research.

 Book Delivery and Issue Desks

The staff at the Book Delivery and Issue desks will deal with any queries regarding delivery and non-delivery of material, e.g. delivery times, items flagged as 'missing', holding books on reserve.


The Reference teams provide free workshops covering a variety of subjects, including how to make the best use of Explore the British Library and help on using databases and electronic journals.

 Disability Support Officer

The Disability Support Officer will provide advice and guidance to readers who may find it difficult to use the services and facilities at St Pancras. If you would like to know more, or if you need assistance in any way, please contact the Disability Support Officer:

 Reader Assistance Point

Staff at the Reader Assistance Point in the Humanities - floor 2 Reading Room will be pleased to help new readers get started. The staff will give advice on:

  • Using the Reading Rooms
  • Ordering books
  • Delivery times
  • Reservation procedures
  • Advance reservations


A range of leaflets and collections guides are available in the leaflet racks in the Reading Rooms.
