A large part of this collection relates to the British and Foreign Anti-Slavery Society which was founded in 1839. The societys aim was to secure the abolition of slavery in general and particularly in America. The collection includes the Minute Books of the British and Foreign Anti-Slavery Society, and also papers relating to conferences held in 1840, 1842 and 1843.

in October 1900.
