Roger Moreton (1935-), materials scientist, was part of the team at RAE Farnborough, led by William Watt, that developed carbon fibre. He joined the project in 1959, and was awarded a PhD by the University of Surrey for his contributions to research on spinning carbon fibre. Later he worked on aluminium-lithium alloys and in the tribology section, where his focuswas on friction and wear. In retirement he continued to act as a consultant and to enjoy paddling his carbon fibre kayak.
