The goal of this paper is to develop a conceptual framework to understand the processes by which rural communities are using social enterprises based on community owned natural resources to engage with global actors. The social enterprise provides a mechanism for rural people to secure tenure for resources owned in common and allows them to make direct decisions regarding their management.
