Communities and social enterprises in the age of globalization

F. Berkes and I.J. Davidson-Hunt

Journal of Enterprising Communities: People and Places in the Global Economy, vol. 1, 2007, p. 209-221

The goal of this paper is to develop a conceptual framework to understand the processes by which rural communities are using social enterprises based on community owned natural resources to engage with global actors. The social enterprise provides a mechanism for rural people to secure tenure for resources owned in common and allows them to make direct decisions regarding their management.
