John Denham, the secretary for innovation, universities and skills has warned that, by 2014, Britain will suffer from a potential shortfall of 2 million workers in key industries if skills gaps in the workforce are not addressed. £200m will be set aside by the government to fund training facilities in the areas of finance, construction, science, engineering and IT over the next three years.
