Welfare Reform on the Web (May 2009): Homelessness - UK

What works?

E. Hawkey

Housing, issue 32, 2009, p. 10-12

This article looks at current approaches to tackling homelessness across the UK. The most effective interventions for tackling repeat or long-term homelessness combine the provision of accommodation with support. Homeless people often have deep-rooted problems which need to be brought under control before they can sustain a tenancy. They are expected to accept the help they need from drugs counsellors, mental health specialists, or bereavement experts.
