In this country the future uprating of National Minimum Wage (NMW) remains under the government's control. The article compares the situation in UK with that of other European countries which also have a minimum wage. In the rest of EU there are more rules about how often and by how much the minimum rate should rise. There is a danger that the position in the UK could reflect that in the USA, where there is no automatic system of adjustment.
