Increasing the supply and promoting the delivery of new housing is an important part of UK urban regeneration policy and practice. Local and regional planning authorities are required to prepare a 'housing trajectory' as part of the supporting evidence base for the Local Development Framework. The main purpose of a trajectory is 'to support the forward planning process by providing a progress report comparing past performance on housing supply to future rates of supply'. This study evaluates the housing trajectory within the framework of evidence-based policy.
