Welfare Reform on the Web (July 2010): Social care - UK - community care

Carers' plight continues

S. Gillen

Community Care, June 10th 2010, p. 22-23

In June 2008, the Labour government published a national carers' strategy and made 150m available to primary care trusts to pay for short breaks. However, research has shown that most of this money has not been used for its intended purpose. Carers' organisations are now waiting for the Coalition government to develop its policy on carers, but it is feared that they may lose out as public spending is cut back.
