The Guardian, Jan. 19th 2011, p. 2

Estimates drawn up by the charity Homeless Link reveals that the proposed 1.6bn reductions in funding the Supporting People Programme could see up to a quarter of the 44,000 homeless hostel beds in England disappear. Charities have warned that the problem of so called 'visible homelessness' will resurface as councils prepare to make savings of up to 65% on budgets that provide key services for the mentally ill, ex-offenders, drug addicts, refugees, care leavers and teenage parents.
