Children and Youth Services Review, vol. 33, 2011, p. 487-568
The challenges of working with children in the contexts of research, policy and practice are explored in this special issue. Evidence is provided of the deep understanding that children and young people have of their lives, the constraints and pressures they confront, and how they experience these. The imperative for recognising children and young people as effective communicators of the reality of their lived experience is reinforced throughout the collection. The articles cover children's participation in decision-making in out-of-home care, in family law, and by children who communicate non-verbally. Children's experiences of armed conflict, child labour and care-giving are explored.
