Welfare Reform on the Web (February 2012): Social care - UK - community care

Frugal Lansley adds 170m to home help

J. Tapsfield

The Independent, January 2nd 2012, p. 12

Savings in the Department of Health's budget will allow the Government to put an extra 150m into funds destined for people to receive care at home, rather than in hospital. Another 20m is also being made available for the disabled facilities grant, which is used to help people to live independently at home. Primary care trusts and local authorities will be able to decide how to spend the cash in order to relieve pressure on hospitals, especially during winter months.
