Welfare Reform on the Web (June 1999): Minimum Wage - UK

BYERS CUTS RED TAPE ON MINIMUM WAGE

P. Webster
Times, Feb. 16th 1999, p. 1.

Announces the scrapping of the requirements to:

  • send every employee a 250-word statement with their pay-slip giving details of the minimum wage;
  • keep records solely on the minimum wage;
  • keep special records for people who work unusual hours such as teachers and school meals supervisors.

WAGE LAW REVOLT THREAT

J. Robinson
Personnel Today, Jan. 21 1999, p. 1 and 13.

Calls on government to revert to the Law Pay Commission's proposal for a simple statement of minimum wage entitlements on pay slips plus detailed information on notice boards. The requirement to enclose a 250 word statement on a separate sheet would impose unnecessary extra costs on industry.
