MEDICAL BODY WANTS DOCTORS TO FACE "MOT"

The General Medical Council has voted in favour of asking government to pass enabling legislation to allow the five-yearly revalidation of doctors' fitness to practice. The five-yearly assessments would be based on a system of annual appraisals which would in theory pick up problems early.

The Commission for Health Improvement has released the first tranche of clinical governance reviews. The trusts concerned have challenged the reviews on the grounds that their conclusions are based on anecdotal evidence and anonymous complaints which are skewing the bigger picture.
