Paper examines the growth in provincial government home care spending in Canada. Results show that the key determinants of levels of home care spending are:

• real per capita gross domestic product (GDP);
• the proportion of the population aged 65 or older;
• real per capita federal health transfers;
• the proportion of GDP devoted to health care.
