Study uses existing data to compare low-income microentrepreneurs who participated in one of seven US microenterprise assistance programmes, low-income self-employed workers not attached to microenterprise assistance programmes, and low income workers who are not self-employed. Analyses of household income and poverty status over time suggest that microenterprise programmes do not make significant gains for participants.
