Dissemination and large-scale implementation of model programmes are considered important tools in helping to increase the quality and effectiveness of mental health promotion and mental disorder prevention at community level. Until recently, research has concentrated on the design and testing of new model programmes. However, successful use of the model programme strategy requires more attention to the preconditions for their effective dissemination, adoption and implementation.
