More than three quarters of people would rather be looked after at home if they became seriously ill than go into a nursing home. The poll, of more than 1 1,000 adults, was commissioned by the organisers of Carers Week 2004, which takes place from June 14-20 to raise awareness of the role of carers and the support available to them. MPs have backed the Carers (Equal Opportunities) Bill, which aims to provide better support.
