Health and Social Care in the Community, Vo.12, 2004, p.448-453
Presents case studies of two residential care facilities for older adults in the Netherlands which attempt to meet the differing cultural needs of their clients. Hogewey caters for people with dementia and has created "homes within homes" using 15 "lifestyle groups" based on seven different lifestyles. This approach enables clients to continue to live in the manner to which they were accustomed prior to the onset of dementia. De Schildershoek, a nursing home in a deprived community in the Hague, has developed care packages designed to enable those in need of care to retain their cultural patterns and practices while living in a safe environment.
